Since leaving the course I have begun a varied career in freelance journalism.
I’ve worked for a number of radio companies across the country such as UKRD, Bauer and Wireless Group.
Being on the course prepared me perfectly for working in the industry, from the really important law stuff to all the fun on-air things. I got offered work as soon as I finished the course… and I’m not the only one, most people on the course got something too.
For me, the BJP course started as a career change because I wanted to get out of marketing and into radio, but it ended up being a career maker.
I learned valuable skills and made great contacts that have given me fantastic opportunities in Bauer.
I’ve worked at three different Bauer stations as a reporter and news reader covering everything from the general election to going out with police on puppy farm raids!
The course helped me achieve my dreams of […]
I left university as a Spanish graduate knowing that it was broadcast journalism that I wanted to pursue. I’d been lucky enough to secure some work experience at local tv and radio stations but knew I needed to get a BJTC accredited qualification to better my chances of finding a job.
Having already done 4 years at University I was reluctant to spend a further year studying a Masters, so the Bauer Journalism Programme was a perfect alternative.
I’m currently […]
Doing the BJP course in 2013 stood me in fantastic stead for the near three years that have followed as I made my first steps in to the broadcasting world.
Since graduating, I have been part of the Radio City news and sport team, working in an exciting patch that covers plenty of fantastic stories.
The role includes writing and reading bulletins as well as getting to interview interesting and sometimes famous people at press conferences, local events and breaking […]

Trainee Journalists with Commissioning Editor Richard Maddock
In January the Bauer Academy Journalism students went to Media City in Manchester and were given a personal tour of BBC Radio 5 Live by the station’s commissioning editor Richard Maddock.
He also gave career advice and some tips on how to get into the BBC.
The Bauer Academy’s first journalism students have graduated with flying colours.
John Pickford, Editor-in-Chief of Bauer Radio News, was on-hand to present them with their Diplomas.
He praised the students’ hard work and commitment, saying there were some ‘very talented people’ on the course who would go on to great success.
Most of this year’s cohort have already secured paid work within Bauer while others are about to take up placements at the BBC.
Bauer Academy Director Courtnay McCleod said the students […]
