Bauer Journalism Programme graduate Rukiyah Khatun has been named Student Journalist of The Year at the 2016 IRN Awards. Rukiyah received her award from IRN Managing Director Tim Molloy at a ceremony in London on Friday.
The judges said, “Rukiyah’s entry combined a great passion for storytelling with authentic voices and great scripting. You could feel her enthusiasm for the content making you want to lean into the speaker to learn more about the subjects she was reporting on. The judges’ choice was unanimous and we feel she has a great future ahead of her.” The prize includes work experience at Sky News.
Rukiyah said it had been ‘an amazing night’ and that she couldn’t quite believe she’d won. She’s pictured (left) with fellow Bauer graduate Emily Reader who was nominated in the same category. In fact, it was a double celebration as Emily has just secured a job as a journalist at Metro Radio.
