The National Broadcasting School based in the Vanilla Factory in Liverpool City Centre is set to host two fantastic courses next month.
Professional Radio Skills
The first is on Saturday 21st April when Radio City’s Rick Houghton will host an Introduction to Professional Radio Skills at the NBS Hub.
During the day long course you will get a grounding in the skills required of a professional radio presenter. Through studio practice time and self-study assignments, you will learn how to engage with listeners by developing your voice, creativity and levels of articulation to help you stand out.
Course elements include;
- Presentation skills the tricks of the trade – building a relationship; voice training,
- “Selling” music, promotions and information
- Building a profile of a target listener; matching content with the target listener; understanding and using the station style books
- Regulation essentials; Defamation, contempt, copyright and the Ofcom programming code on children, privacy, religion; health and other areas of potential controversy.

The following week, April 28th David Downie from Everton FC podcast The Blue Room will show you how to create a podcast in a day.
Whether you want to improve internal communications, train your staff, advertise your product/service or create brand awareness this skills day will show you how.
David will take you through the A-Z of podcasting here at the NBS Hub in central Liverpool answering questions such as
What is a podcast? How would a podcast improve my business? What should it sound like?
And he’ll also explore the value a podcast can add to your business. How podcasts help you build a relationship with your customers and why there’s a massive potential audience that is nowhere near reaching saturation point. Podcasting is one of the fastest growing media categories.
He’ll look at the different styles your podcast can employ, from having a single presenter to multiple contributors, discussions and interviews with guests from anywhere in the world!
